WHY THE NAME

A project tends to start with an idea, a thought or an irk about something. This project started with a poem thinking about a person.

Women exist at the centre of my world creatively. My artistic curiosity is about their existence.

I started to think about one woman specifically, and blurted out everything I could think of on my phone. Who she was, what she loved, what she listens to her hopes, her dreams. She felt as real as the moon.

The name Marie only came about naturally

(kind of funny to me how the main characters in some of my favourite movies who are named Marie and polar opposites of each other)

WHAT IS SHOWING

I am hoping to capture a glimpse of Marie and

the many people that she is. The delicate warrior. The rotting princess

ITS MEANING

I think to be a woman is to be at war, both with oneself and with the world. I am taking a tiny piece of the very complex war. Creating in a way to present Marie in a manner that is honest.

A war to be delicate without being weak.

A war to not be subjected to being seen.

A war to exist without having to perform
